Softie design: how much stuffing are you going to use?
Something to consider when designing softies: if you want to stuff them so they are more firm, which is nice, it's going to change the shape a bit.

Tyrannousaurus rex softie - red fleece
Handsewed this T-rex with fleece, wool felt, and perle embroidery thread. It's for Tobias, who is 4 years old and can go on for awhile quoting random dinosaur names from his book of dinosaurs.

the quail softie
Y'all, I just made this. I haven't seen a softie like this before so... pretty fun. Also, I made it from "remnant" fabric, like pretty much all my other softies. As far as I know, this has got to be a more eco-conscious thing, using scraps from the store. 22$ if you want to buy one, free us shipping.

Cat softies: practice makes...you branch out
When I first started drawing, I drew a banana every day and then ate it for breakfast. For a long time as a new baker, when I cooked breakfast, I made the same biscuit recipe. There's something to repetition of a simple process, especially as a beginner. It's easier to notice your progress. I saw a Ted talk today with Shawn Acheson that discussed, in part, how reaching goals helps you move on to bigger goals. It's true. Now I can draw most anything with more confidence and I've had success baking more breads and cookies and pie crusts and other things.
I'm not new to handsewing softies but I'm pretty new to designing softies. While I keep sewing the same simple stuffed cat doll, I'm improving my stitching, testing color combinations, practicing stuffing the doll and cutting the fabric, building confidence, hopefully improving my photography, and most importantly, getting to the point where I'm ready to design and make something totally new.
