Grey brown little something almost done

Just have to weave in my ends, which I don't know how to do on this lace yet, and block it. I've never blocked anything but I think this scarf would really benefit from it. 

I decided to just use only the yarn I had because the color could differ if I used yarn from a different dye lot. The scarf is 30 inches long which is long enough.  I'll be interested to see how long it gets when I block it.

Progress on my little something scarf. It's about 23 inches long so I have about 17 more inches to go.  I've used almost as much yarn as the pattern calls for already.  Not exactly sure why. 

Wendy Bernard's fingerless lace mitt from Creativebug: practice run

Saturday I knitted this fingerless lace mitt from the Creativebug class by Wendy Bernard.  I knew my yarn was too thick but I wanted to try making one for practice.  I enjoyed learning the "nested fans" lace pattern.  

I used the yarn I salvaged from an old sweater my cousin gave me. I'm all for practicing a pattern on yarn that's inexpensive. On this mitt I learned that when you do a m1 increase if you knit it through the front loop instead of the back loop there will be a hole.  I didn't carefully read the pattern and made that mistake on this glove's thumb gusset.  

I liked that this glove requires some focus when you are knitting the lace and the thumb gusset, but there aren't too many stitches to count like there are in a project like a scarf. So you can easily fix mistakes and you don't have to really pay attention for as long at a time. 

If you try this pattern, definitely read the pattern before you watch the corresponding segments of the video lessons.  Especially if you are making a different size glove than the instructor makes.

Clarendon scarf

Just finished knitting this scarf except for the blocking.  It doesn't get cold here in Birmingham until November so I have time.

This is the first hat I've ever knitted (which I finished earlier this year), and the first scarf I've knitted since I was a kid.  It's the first scarf I've made that's not a simple garter stitch. 

The best part about knitting a simple scarf to me is that you don't have to have a lot of time or focus when you sit down to knit. Getting to a good stopping point only takes a minute or two so you can knit in that off moment when you're waiting somewhere or while you're watching TV.  It can keep you productive.

I want to make this scarf again.  Next time I'll make it wider, like it is in the Clarendon pattern from this book, Simple Hip Knit Scarves, and also weave yarn through the holes and make a fringe at each end. 

    

Linen "A little something" scarf

Im enjoying knitting with this linen shibui yarn.  The color is caffeine. The yarn itself is knitted and very strong and slightly irregular in thickness. 

Knitting lace: A little something

Learning to knit lace today.  Very glad my elbow, shoulder, wrist, and hand, which I sprained, has gotten a lot better and I can get back to sewing & knitting.  

The top photo is the beginning of the scarf "A little something" from Jill Draper's Creativebug class.  The second photo is the practice swatch which she also gives a pattern for.  

If you try this class, make sure to watch a video on tinking ssks (unknitting slip slip knits).  It will make this a lot easier. There are several videos about this on youtube. 

New hexipuffs

I'm using all Patons Kroy sock yarn. 

Striped toboggan

Here is my first striped toboggan. Just finished it this morning.  There's a little break in the first navy stripe at the join.  I don't know why this happened.  Do you? 

Maroon toboggan

So I made my first adult-sized hat yesterday.  Nice to have a useful skill.  With the gauge swatch it took maybe 7 hours. 

I told each of my parents individually that the math you have to do to customize the hat is kind of a challenge and they both basically said I'm glad you could use your education for that.  Kind of embarrassing - really it's pretty easy.  

Hexipuffs

I always knit hexipuffs for my beekeeper's quilt when I don't feel up to doing anything else and I've been knitting a lot of them lately because I've had a bad case of tonsillitis. Sorry I didn't post for awhile. These are the hexipuffs I've knitted in the past couple of days.
